Connecting to SQL server 2008 R2 remotely using VPN modems -


i in process of accessing remote instance sql server using vpn modems. modems in same vpn network. can ping each of modems remote machines. have set alias of sql server instances ip address of respective machines using (the ip addresses) connect remote machines. problem getting error "a network related or instance specific error has occurred..." . may causing this? thanks.

from object explorer open new connect window scroll down server name values select browse more option after select network servers , choose server want connect use sql server authentication mode connect remote server
